Selim Bulut is a UK editor, writer, and digital media specialist. He has worked in music and culture journalism for over 10 years.
He was previously Digital Editor at Rolling Stone UK and Music Editor at Dazed.
His other bylines include i-D, British GQ, Time Out London, DJ Mag, Mixmag, AnOther, Crack, and WePresent. As a freelance editor, he has worked with The Guardian and Mill Media Co.
He is represented by Charlie Brotherstone at Aevitas Creative Management.
Selim is experienced in both journalism and digital strategy. His specialism is in writing, editing, and commissioning longform features. He has a keen understanding of SEO, data analytics, content management systems, and newsletter platforms.
On the commercial side, he has written copy and content for major and independent record labels, music venues, recording studios, and retailers. He regularly writers artist biographies, liner notes, show notes, and press releases.
He has interviewed the likes of Björk, Massive Attack, Riz Ahmed, Tilda Swinton, Charli XCX, Phoebe Bridgers, James Blake, A. G. Cook, Skrillex, and more.
EDITING
Selim’s experience is in both journalism and digital strategy. His work commissioning and editing longform features is informed by his knowledge of SEO, data analytics, and content management systems.
As Digital Editor of Rolling Stone UK, Selim was responsible for publishing features across the music, film, TV, politics, and pop culture section. He also launched digital cover stories with KSI, Matt Smith, and Rina Sawayama, and executed a number of commercial and advertorial campaigns. During his time there, website traffic increased by 175%.
Before that, he spent four years as Music Editor for Dazed. One of his special editorial projects, The End of the Decade campaign, was nominated for The Drum’s Editorial Campaign of the Year in 2019.
Most importantly, he worked with other writers to help bring their ideas to life: from a longread about an incarcerated rapper, to an history of the happy hardcore scene, to a retrospective on America’s first black punk band.
CURATING, COPYWRITING & CONSULTING
As a commercial copywriter, Selim has written artist biographies, liner notes, show notes, press releases, and product blurbs for major labels, indies, live venues, music studios, and retailers.
He is also experienced in playlist curation. He launched Dazed’s monthly new music playlist, The Only Tracks You Need to Hear, which grew to over 10,000 organic followers during his time at the company.
As a speaker, he has led music journalism workshops, hosted live panels and Q&As, and appeared as a specialist on BBC radio.
